Planning to go to College?

Are you planning to go to college?
What to do now....

  • Visit the College & Career Center and make an appointment to meet with Ms. Clark or Mr. Partlow.
  • Log on to Naviance/Family Connection to research and apply to colleges.  Not sure how to use Naviance?  Come by and we will help you!
  • Complete your list of colleges.   Choose colleges that are an academic, location and personality fit for you.  Just because someone else likes/dislikes a college does not mean that you will.
  • You list of colleges should include a couple of reach schools, 4-5 targets and 2-3 safety schools that you are very confident will accept you.
  • Re-take the SAT or ACT (only if necessary) no later than December.
  • Check to see how many of your schools are on the Common Application and sign up at www.commonapp.org
  • If you are using the Common App, list Ms. Clark or Mr. Partlow as your counselor.
  • Start working on your Common App essay. We are happy to read your essays.
  • Planning on going to a CSU?  Go to www.csumentor.edu Apply Oct. 1 thru Nov. 30
  • Planning on UC?  Start working on your essays at www.universityofcalifornia.edu.  Apply to UC Nov. 1 thru 30.
  • Look at out-of-state and private schools.  You could save $.
  •  Can't decide on a major?  Undecided is fine.
  • Do not send transcripts/test scores until you submit your application and the college requests them.  Thoroughly read the application in case the school wants a transcript with the application.
  • Visit colleges, if at all possible.
  • Attend the college visits at Northgate.
  • Have your list of extracurricular activities and community service available when you are completing your applications.
  • Ask questions!  This process can be confusing.  We are here to help!
